Expressing Emotions: Guilt

Guilt is the feeling of answerability for some wrongdoing you believe you have committed. It can come from doing as simple a thing as pinching someone hard, or something as unfortunate as mistakenly killing someone. When guilt is strong, you feel ‘ashamed’ of yourself. I have given examples below, which describe guilt, but it's in your capabilities to decide to use the example that best fits your scene.

  1. A voice in the mind tells you to fix your mistake
  2. An action with the self (self-correction/repentance)
  3. Living in fear of doing something wrong (generally people who often commit mistakes)
  4. Fear of others finding out what you’ve done
  5. Shame put her through a multifaceted experience (acting differently in front of different people)
  6. Her denial of guilt/shame only prolonged her agony
  7. She had the feeling of nakedness (not physical nudity)
  8. Wanting to disappear
  9. Failing to meet your own standard of behavior/societal standard
  10. Blaming yourself or others; diverting blame
  11. Annoyed/disappointed at yourself
  12. Upset stomach/digestion
  13. Headache (generally persists for a long time)
  14. Feeling strangely hot
  15. Not in a state of well-being (lack of happiness/peace/comfort etc)
  16. Head down
  17. slumped posture; body collapsing
  18. She wished she could be invisible and not be noticed by anyone
  19. She was sorry
  20. She seemed like she was in the wrong
  21. She was flustered
  22. She wished that the ground would swallow her up
  23. She felt burdened by guilt
  24. Trembling with guilt/shame
  25. Struggling to confess
  26. Sense of alienation from others
  27. Feeling anxious
  28. Feeling inferior/insignificant
  29. Feeling ugly
  30. Expecting punishment
